Simple Ways to Prioritize Daily Tasks

When everything feels urgent, a few simple questions can show you what to do first.

Ask what happens if it waits

For each task, ask: what actually happens if this waits until tomorrow? If the answer is nothing serious, it is probably not urgent, even if it feels loud.

Separate urgent from important

Urgent tasks demand attention now, such as a deadline today. Important tasks move your longer goals forward, such as planning or learning. A good day usually holds a little of both, and the important items are the ones most likely to be skipped.

Pick a daily top three

Each morning or the night before, choose three tasks that make the day count. Write them where you will see them. Finish these first and anything else is a bonus.

Give small tasks a shared slot

Quick tasks like short replies or small calls can be batched into one block so they stop interrupting deeper work throughout the day.
